Italian Classes for Adults

At Italian School NJ, conversation skills are a priority for both our staff and our students.
Having encountered many adult students who were frustrated with their lack of fluency after years of study, we devised a curriculum that gives priority to conversation, while concomitantly enhancing the conceptual understanding of the language through a thorough explanation of the grammatical structures. 
Our goal is to create an encouraging environment to learn the Italian language by providing small classroom sizes (7-8 students at the most) and individual attention to all students.

Online & In-person options

In-person classes are held at our East Hanover location, 49 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ.
All classes are conducted mainly in Italian, in accordance with our full-immersion philosophy, with the exception of some beginner courses. Each class is structured around the integration of texts and supplementary materials (i.e. handouts, videos, etc..) handpicked to create an equilibrium between verbal and written fluency, while simultaneously using in-class conversation, role playing, and other games to increase practical expression. Student-to-student interaction and repetition are paramount in creating an environment that both encourages and enhances verbal skill, and we put a premium upon ensuring that each student reaches both the benchmarks set forth by our curriculum, as well as their own personal goals.

ISNJ offers three main semesters: Fall (mid September-end of February) Late Fall (mid-November-April) and Spring (immediately following after the Fall semester until the end of May). Classes may also start anytime once we receive a minimum of 4 students registered for the same time and day.

Adult weekly classes. Meet once a week, 12 classes, 1.5 hour each.
ISNJ offers in-person and online options. Ongoing and forming classes available. Forming classes will start anytime once we receive a minimum of 4 students requesting the same time and day. Ongoing classes can be joined anytime. Placement for ongoing classes for new students with prior Italian language knowledge is based on teacher’s approval upon completion of an entrance exam. If the class is already started tuition may be pro-rated.

NEW BEGINNER - ONLINE ONLY - 1 hour classes, meet once a week!

Intensive Adult Classes (3 or 4 weeks - 2 times per week). Online and in-person options.
Learn or brush up your Italian in few weeks! Do you want to have a basic introduction to the Italian language in short time? Do you need to brush up your Italian that you studied a long time ago? Do you want to become more fluent? Italian School NJ has a program for you where adults will attend classes twice a week and therefore will have more exposure to the Italian language to reinforce their learning.

Online conversation sessions for Intermediate & Advanced only
Gain fluency in your Italian. Buy a package and “come” to class at your convenience. Students can pick one or both days. ISNJ will send a schedule of the days offered to choose from. Packages must be used within 3 months after purchase.

Book Club for Intermediate & Advanced only - 4 Classes - meet every other week
Explore Italian literature with our knowledgeable teachers. Students will read an Italian book on their own and will discuss with the teacher and in class. Classes will meet every other week to give students enough time to complete their reading.

Italian Private lessons

Private lessons are available in-person and online.
Private and semi-private tutoring is a collaborative effort between student and teacher to create the most effective and enjoyable learning experience. Private or semi-private lessons are perfect for people who wish study intensively alone or at their own pace. These lessons are great for all skill levels and can be tailored to fit the specific needs of any student.  Lesson content, day and time can be arranged according to your request.

Individual online or in-person private lessons: 
$65 for a 1-hour session
$85 for a 1.5-hour session

Semi-private online or in-person lessons (2 students, 1 teacher):
Please note - this rate applies ONLY if both students are present for the lesson.
$50 for a 1-hour session for each student
$65  for a 1.5-hour session for each student

Semi-private online or in-person lessons (3 students, 1 teacher):
Please note - this rate applies ONLY if all 3 students are present for the lesson.
$55  for a 1.5-hour session for each student

Tuitions are required to be paid in advance for at least 4 four lessons.
In-person private and semi-private lessons are held in our East Hanover office. If the student requires a different location, an additional fee may apply. Please email us at info@italianschoolnj.com for information and fees on other locations.

Italian Family lessons

Family Italian Language Lessons
Italian School NJ offers special discounted rate for same-family private lessons. Family lessons can be done by 2, 3 or 4 students (members of the same family) with 1 teacher.
It will be up to the teacher’s discretion to determine whether family members are compatible to attend lessons all together or divide in groups.

Semi-private online or in-person family lesson (2 members of the same family with one teacher):
$90 for both students for 1-hour long lesson
$110 for both students for 1.5-hour long lesson

Semi-private online or in-person family lesson (done with 3 or 4 members of the same family with one teacher simultaneously):
 $110 for all students for 1-hour long lesson
 $130 for all students for 1.5-hour long lesson
Fees are required to be paid in advance for at least 4 four lessons.
